Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is Hollywood's highest-paid actor of 2019

2019 is shaping up to be quite the year for Dwayne ''The Rock'' Johnson.

The semi-retired WWE star-turned-actor producer was named Hollywood's highest-paid actor by Forbes magazine, even though he ranked as No. 15 on the list for overall total earnings. He also made the list in 2018.

According to the magazine, Johnson, 41, raked in $89.4 million from his movies such as "Hobbs & Shaw" and "Jumanji: The Next Level." He also stars in the HBO show "Ballers" and he hosted the "Titan Games" on NBC.


Adding to his already extensive resume, Johnson has a production company – Seven Bucks Production – which has a number of projects in the works such as "Black Adam," "The King" and "Red Notice" on Netflix.

In 2018, Johnson brought in $124 million — the most Forbes had ever seen a single Hollywood actor make in the history of its Celebrity 100 list.

Following his storied career in wrestling, Johnson went on to smash at the box office with hits like Jumanji and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. In fact, Johnson’s acting accolades recently earned him the top spot on Forbes’ world’s ten highest-paid actors list when it was released earlier this year.

The entertainer now has a new venture up his sleeves and he’s gradually giving fans a taste. This taste that those over drinking age will soon be privy to is Teremana Tequila. Johnson unveiled the name of his new tequila in the caption to a photo uploaded on Instagram on Wednesday, October 30. He also revealed that Teremana Tequila, which is the result of “years of hard work,” will be both small batch and hand-crafted.

Dwayne spoke to The Daily Express and shared details about his mother’s attempted suicide when he was 15 years old.

His family had dealt with their fair share of difficulties and at the time had just been evicted from their apartment.

Dwayne said: “She got out of the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic.

"Big rigs and cars were swerving out of the way. I grabbed her and pulled her back on the gravel shoulder of the road. What’s crazy about that suicide attempt is that to this day, she has no recollection of it whatsoever.

"Probably best she doesn’t.”


For Dwayne, however, the experience was not as easily forgotten and began to deeply affect him emotionally.

He went through bouts of serious depression of his own and revealed: “I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere,” he said. “I was crying constantly.”

He went on to reference several other low points in his life, including his football injury which cost him his football career and his girlfriend breaking him up with him shortly after.

Dwayne said this lead him to his “absolute worst time” dealing with his mental issues.


Dwayne knew he had two options, to either wallow in his self-pity or to pick himself up and turn his life around.

Thankfully for Dwayne he found the inner strength needed. He is now one of the highest-paid and most beloved actors in Hollywood but his past has allowed him to remain humble.

Speaking about both his and his mother's depression he said: “We both healed but we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain.

"We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone.”
